Augustine Institute

The Wisdom of Christfor the Good of Souls

A Graduate School of Theology dedicated to knowing and loving God.

The Augustine Institute Graduate School of Theology forms men and women to know the Catholic faith deeply and to give an account of it — in a parish, in a classroom, in a diocese, or in further scholarship. Twelve courses, on campus in St. Louis or by distance education, in the company of the Fathers, Doctors and Saints.

“You have made us for yourself,” Augustine wrote, “and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” That restlessness — the cor inquietum — is what brings people here.

Mira Wilson
I hungered for the experience of an authentic and faithful Catholic education. Praise be to God that He led me to the Augustine Institute! My studies here continue to refresh my soul with the beauty of God’s Truth and never cease to deepen my love for Christ and His Church.

How we form

Three commitments

A seminar in the St John Henry Newman Reading Room

The Church calls the study of the sacred page “the soul of sacred theology” (Dei Verbum, 24). Every program here begins there, putting the historical, linguistic and literary tools of contemporary scholarship in conversation with the Church’s own exegetical tradition.

A class in session beneath the sacred art

We prepare students to give a joyful and compelling account of the faith — in active charity, and to the people they serve.

A graduate receiving her degree beneath the San Damiano cross

An interdisciplinary curriculum in Scripture, doctrine, Church history and the arts of missionary discipleship — formed by the Word of God in fidelity to the Church’s living Magisterium.

Four master’s programs, one mission

Every student receives an education that is immersed in Scripture and Catholic teaching. Full-time or part-time, on campus in St. Louis or by distance education.

Paul J. Duker, Sr.
The Augustine Institute’s MA program has been instrumental at better equipping me for my role as Program Manager of the Archdiocesan Office of Marriage & Family Life. More importantly, the Augustine Institute has deepened my love for Christ and His Church.
